Dampening

When is enough, enough?

Quite simply, when direct dampening is used within the listening zone, your sources will assume the sound characteristics of the dampening material. I agree that direct dampening is very effective at negating a sound wave reflection & sound control as seen in the anechoic chamber above. When too much dampening is applied to a room one problem is now solved but at least 2 more problems have been introduced.

1) Certain frequencies that are vital to accurate music response have also been removed.

2) Your instruments and vocals now have the sonic personality of foam or fiberglass baffles because they have taken on the characteristics of their surroundings.

What’s the solution then? Well, we have developed a “Barricade” system of controlling the unwanted sound energy before it propagates in the pressure zones and re-enters the room. It uses dampening, but in strategic locations, staying away from direct dampening in the listening zone.
